HUGHESNET SERVICE PLANS

Standard service plans are available for the DW4020, DW6000, DW7000 and HN7000S models. Premium plans are designed to take advantage of the DW7000 and HN7000S models. HughesNet operate a cutting edge traffic performance management system maintaining minimum typical speeds to all users and ensuring network availability.

HughesNet's sophisticated Fair Access Policy (FAP) operates in real time. The system is designed to penalise sites that consistently download large amounts of data over prolonged periods of time - such as video streaming or peer to peer applications.

There are two levels of FAP that can be applied. The first is known as a "soft throttle" and sets a limit on your maximum download speed. The second, or "hard throttle", restricts the offending site to less than 64kbps. Once FAP is applied to a particular site it can take several hours for the FAP to be lifted. Customers on higher service plans will be able to use the service more heavily without running the risk of being subjected to FAP. In the same way, higher service plans will have the FAP lifted at a quicker rate than sites on , say, the basic home level package.

Because of the dynamic nature of the FAP system there are no hard monthly download or upload limits. We've found that typical users using the system for browsing, chat applications, email and reasonable downloads do not find themselves subjected to FAP.

Which Direcway system is right for me?

Hughes Network Systems, a leader in VSAT design and manufacturing, has three different platforms to fit the different needs of individual customers. All DirecWay Indoor Units (IDUs) work with the same antenna and Outdoor Unit (ODU) configuration.

The HN7000S is a single chassis IDU that is immensley versatile, and Hughes Network Systems latest Satellite Modem, suitable for single users, small LAN or large LAN networks. It uses the latest DVB-S2 standard for maximum bandwdith performance.

The DW6000 is a single chassis IDU that is best for single users or for small LAN for 3-4 PCs. It offers a single LAN port (10/100BT) so a LAN hub/switch/router is required for connecting more than one device. The DW6000 can transmit at speeds upto 256 Kbps only.

The DW4020 is a three chassis unit that is best suited for LANs with 5 to 15 PCs. It has a built in, four port Ethernet switch (10/100BT) that can directly connect up to 4 LAN devices. Connecting more devices will require an external LAN hub/switch. The 4020 has better processing capacity as the satellite and LAN processing are shared among the three chassis. The DW4020 can transmit at speeds upto 128 Kbps only.

Please note older 4000 series, sometimes sold as the "Star Duo" are now considered legacy systems and unless upgraded to DW4020 are only available on legacy service plans and the above pricing will not apply.
